Debbie Rakos
Upon turning 35 years old, Debbie, a long time smoker, decided it was time to make some lifestyle changes, which included quitting smoking, eating healthy and getting in shape. Being that kick boxing was “the new thing”, Debbie started looking for a gym or school in her area that offered that type of workout. In mid 1999, after meeting Jeff Martin at a local Chamber of Commerce mixer, she found Brand X Martial Arts. Initially, Debbie attended only the kick-boxing classes. It was only after both her daughters Ashley and Amanda started the Kenpo Karate classes that Debbie decided to give karate a try. It quickly became a way of life not only for her children, but Debbie as well. When the Martin’s introduced Krav Maga into the programs, Debbie eagerly jumped into that also. Debbie’s husband Todd is also involved as a certified Krav Maga Force Training Division Instructor. When Jeff Martin established the CrossFit program at Brand X, Debbie was excited about a program that would work so well with and complement her training in Kenpo and Krav Maga.
In the summer of 2005, Debbie completed the 3 day course to become a certified CrossFit Trainer, and has subsequently been certified as a CrossFit Kids trainer as well as having attended Coach Mike Burgener’s Olympic Weightlifting certification. Debbie is currently managing the sales office at Brand X in addition to assisting in the adult and kids classes when needed and offering private personal training. In May of 2006, Debbie earned her first degree back belt in Kenpo Karate. Upon earning her black belt, Debbie became the first student to go from a white belt to black belt at Brand X Martial Arts.
