I took an early retirement 4 years ago at 55. After 30 years in construction, and living on the edge, I managed to break my neck, collarbone, leg(twice), both hands, 3 surgeries on my shoulders, and 1 on my knee. Arthritis set in and I settled in to a daily regiment of pain medication, and inactivity. The less I did, the less I could do! My activity level was slowly going by the wayside. It was an effort to do the little things that before I took for granted.
Jeff, Dan, and the Brand X crew scaled down work outs for me. That allowed me to progressively regain flexibility and mobility. Granted it was a slow pace, but I progressed in ways that to some are hardly noticeable. I could get off the floor unassisted. I can bend over and touch my toes. I can set in a chair and put my ankle on my knee. I told Jeff last week that I sat cross-legged on the sidelines of my grandsons entire La Crosse game. It was huge to me, and to him. Training at Crossfit Brand X has given me a really big part of my life back. I've been able to reduce my intake of pain medication, and function at a much better level. My quality of life has improved, and it's enabled me to spend better time with my children and grandchildren.
After several months into my work outs, I transitioned to the Paleo diet. It's given me more energy, and after 4-5 months,I've lost just over 30 lbs. Not quite my ideal weight, but definite progress. As long as Brand X keeps letting me walk in the door, I'm in it for life. I want to be able to wear a Brand X t-shirt, and run into Jeff, Mikki, Dan, Debbie, Andrea, or Connor on the street, and have them smile, knowing they've had a huge impact on my life!
