Actually you hit it on the head there, LOML. I was thinking that a couple of weeks ago you were sick on a Monday. So, it was Dashutterbug and I teaching kids class. A mom brought three new kids in to try the class. At the end of class she told me that we didn’t have enough help and they wouldn’t be back. Unfortunately, we have impacted those three kids negatively. In the future, they will undoubtedly say, we tried karate, we didn’t like it. Their parents will undoubtedly tell people that our classes are too full and to go somewhere else. Given where we are and how long we have been doing this, this shouldn’t happen. So, I would say all the competition stuff doesn’t have a place in the traditional martial arts. Admiration for others skils might. The journey is your own. It is a journey that shouldn’t end certainly not with the attaining of a belt which doesn’t even hold up your pants. But I would say the journey is enhanced by your service to those around you, in the school and out.
