CrossFit is the strength and conditiong system designed around functional movements, performed with intensity using a variable rep/set pattern.  Okay your kids won’t understand that, but you can tell the older ones that Crossfit will help them run faster, jump farther, throw harder, climb higher, kick the ball farther, push bigger things around and lift heavier stuff.  For the younger ones just tell them, “We’re going to have fun”.
Fun is the key word.  We want our kids to see their time working out as fun.  This thread will describe some of the things/equipment you will need to do the CrossFit for kids workout.  Ways to be inventive or build your own equipment will be posted in the “Crossfit for Kids Help” thread.

Weights:
For our puppies you will need:
*Dumbells of 3,5, and 8 pounds.  That is a bout a $20.00 investment and can be picked up at any sporting goods store.  If you cannot buy them we have some ideas on how to make some in our CrossFit for Kids Help section.
*Broom stick or plastic pipe[/list:u]

For older kids you will need heavier dumbbells, but probably nothing over 15 to twenty pounds, and a standard weight set bar.  You can pick these up cheaply at a used sporting goods store.  We can also tell you how to make some if you are handy.

Ropes and such:
We are going to do a lot of pulling movements in our workouts.  Most of our puppies will not be able to do pullups when they start so we will need to get a few items we can use to help simulate the movements of a pullup.  We will need:
*an old bath towel
*about 20 ft. of poly dacron or manila rope (you can get this at Home depot very inexpensively)
*an old book bag, back pack, or duffle bag to put weights into.  (You can get a good canvas duffle bag from an army surplus store cheaply)[/list:u]

Throwing:
*Soccer balls
*Basketballs
*Medicine balls 2-5 #‘s(we can tell you how to make them or where to buy them)[/list:u]
