DD and I were just talking about a related subject last night.
The more you train the more you want to avoid a situation of any kind.  The most talented Martial Artists I know, rarely if ever get into fights . 
There is nothing to prove- so to speak, and you are more aware of all the possible things can go wrong multiple attackers etc.  But in Self-Defense, my family or friends- then all bets are off and you go 110%..
