The mainpage of CrossFit directs new people here for help getting started.  CF can be confusing enough for a newbie, we want to make it as easy as possible for them.  We ask you to be courteous and thoughtful of the newbies.  If they show up here for the first time and have to wade through 5-10 posts before we have a chance to scale for them, it can make it more difficult.

No scaling for Mary. Its a Big Dawg workout.

Puppies and Buttercups: If you cannot do pull ups do jumping pull ups.

If you cannot do push ups, DO NOT do knee push ups. Do box or wall push ups instead. For a great push up progression see the free CF kids journal. http://www.brandxmartialarts.com/pdfs/BXKIDSCFNEWSfina11.pdf

Hi there, newbie here. Could someone really quick explain the pack/puppies/buttercup nomenclature? My history is of a high level college swimmer that has been doing crosstraining (weights/running/biking) for the last 4 years.

Thanks!

They have no real significance aside from labelling the levels of fitness the workouts are aimed at.
Buttercups is the lowest, Puppies a bit more work and so on.

There is some more info here.
http://www.crossfitbrandx.com/index.php/forums/viewthread/1268/ but note that Garddawg doesn’t scale the WODs exactly according to these “rules” these days.

Is that what you were after?

re Dog nomenclature: What Metric said and the significance is tied closely to Brand X culture personified by GardDawg’s avatar. We all want to be “Big Dawgs” and we have a whole slew of sayings built around it.

Woof!
Chasing the big dawgs.

etc.

Buttercups were named in reference to a CrossFit slogan: “Suck it up, Buttercup!”

We have too many heroes lost and not enough workout days to commemorate them. I think it’s fitting to always think of the men and women in service, whether military or peace officers and public safety, as we do our workouts. A bit of motivation to throw a little of our sweat and maybe a drop of blood on the floor in their honor.

13 rounds even 19:26

Knocked a little time off. My best PR was 13 rounds right at 20:00. The pushups after 10 rounds are just killin my time. Down to singles and double reps at the end.

Buy in
BS 5x 31 / 31 / 41 / 51kg

ME weight in kg
56 / 61 / 63 (20% below current 5RM)
Worked mostly on form: good depth - way below parallel - and having weight squarely on the heels all the time. Forgot to keep an eye on whether butt is going back before going down or not, except on last round.

10min rest, then

Metcon
in 12 mins I did:
8 rounds of Cindy, then subbed 10 situps for the squats and did another 6 rounds of 5 Pull-ups, 10 Push-ups, 10 sit-ups

Left wrist still not ok, was giving me some grief on push-ups; squats were clearly not a good idea after doing BS - very slow!; have to work those sit-ups!

No time for cash-out.
