This is my second time attemtping DL and first time doing reps higher than 2. I was totally unsure of where to start with weight so I erred on the side of caution. I found the weight much easier than expected and slowly upped it during the workout.

Deadlift x 15 @ 115
Run 800m
Deadlift x 12 @ 125
Run 800m
Deadlift x 9 @ 135
Run 800m

14:40

I need to work on the deadlift, the final set of 135 wasn’t “easy” but it was not nearly as difficult as expected. I believe I will start with that weight next time. My Crossfit total from a few weeks ago was a 145# Deadlift. Is it typical for people to see this sort of shift their first few times Deadlifting?

The wind was killing me today on the way back for each lap of my runs. Deadlifts were alright, 1st set was 10-5-6, 2nd set was 8-7, 2rd was unbroken. Worked on front and back levers as well as handstands afterwards…feebly of course…shoulders and back are dead. Anyone take transitional showers? 2min cold, 2min hot for about 4 or 5 rounds? Just started…wondering if its really going to help recovery.

A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

Loved it, every second of it, but the runs sucked in a good way!

Have fun.

Run 400 meters

Run 800 meters
75-95 pound Deadlift, 9 reps

Run 400 meters
45-55 pound Deadlift, 12 reps
Run 400 meters
45-55 pound Deadlift, 9 reps
Run 400 meters

women 15-25

Before I go out and attempt DL for the first time, what does the “women 45 - 55 or women 15 - 25” mean at the bottom of the prescribed exercise?

I do believe that the “women 45 - 55 or women 15 - 25” is referring to the amount of weight women should use for dead-lifting.  So for butter cups women would use 15-25 pounds and in puppies they would use 45-55 pounds.

If that is the case, what does the 45-55 pound deadlift mean for Buttercups?  I was going to use the 45 pound bar for my DL and if it felt okay move up to 50 and ultimately 55 pounds.  Am I reading that wrong?

45-55 pounds for male buttercups. 15-25 pounds for female buttercups.

Thanks.  WOD is as follows:

w/u - 5 Burpees
15 gravitron pullups (45#)
20 pushups
30 situps

45 pound Deadlift, 15 reps
Run 400 meters (treadmill, speed 7.3 mph)
65 pound Deadlift, 12 reps
Run 400 meters (treadmill, speed 7.3 mph)
65 pound Deadlift, 9 reps
Run 400 meters (treadmill, speed 7.3 mph)

45 pounds felt relatively.  I was trying to get my son involved in the workout and he started with 65 pounds so I just used what he had on the bar.  Wasn’t able to keep an accurate time since I was helping him and giving him direction.

Didn’t realize until he told me that it was easy that he was working on the puppies (female) level.  Will push him up a level if he decides to join me again.  Or better yet, will hook him up with FRAN!  hmmm

My first WOD post!

Did the WOD as prescribed:

225# Deadlift, 21 reps
Run 1/2 mile on treadmill
225# Deadlift, 15 reps
Run 1/2 mile on treadmill
225# Deadlift, 9 reps
Run 1/2 mile on treadmill

Time: 22:12

The weight of the lifts felt fine, but I had some trouble holding onto the bar due to a ripped callous on my right hand (courtesy of the WOD on Thursday!).  I had to do all the deadlifts in sets.  The running felt good in a strange way.  I had a heart-rate monitor on just to see where I was, and I was very close to max HR during most of the runs, but still felt fine.

I’m not looking forward to how this will feel in the morning!  Long flight to the west coast tomorrow afternoon.
