I was reading about a champion endurance horse that was cloned.  My question is, do you think the offspring(?) will share the same endurance and performance capabilities as the original?

Or more to the point, if I were cloned today, but the clone was raised by someone else how much different would I be?  Would I still be able to perform in the same manner.  How would my mental toughness be.

Ah the age old heridity v. environment rolleyes

Steve, if you edit your post you can fix the title… smile I’ve done that before.

hmmm…I think the clone would have the same potential, but training and environment also should have some influence. How much in relation to genetic possibilites, I can’t even venture a guess.

I’ll have to think about this one!

We have too many heroes lost and not enough workout days to commemorate them. I think it’s fitting to always think of the men and women in service, whether military or peace officers and public safety, as we do our workouts. A bit of motivation to throw a little of our sweat and maybe a drop of blood on the floor in their honor.

Ok I’ll throw in my hat..

Although I think the starting point (genetic gifts or lack thereof) has a
substantial impact,  your mindset and character are developed by your environment (or lack therof) With the addition of similar physical & skill training actual performance would then be determined by a combination of those attributes. Ultimately I do not think all of those things can ever be exactly replicated and thus I don’t think the cloning will have the desired result. I tend to think mindset (determination, persistance, work ethic ) and character are what makes a true champion, horse or otherwise.

Also think of how many people can point to one or two brief moments in their lives that they look at as “turning points”.  One small moment, incident , encounter or event can have substantial & lasting impact-
How do you replicate that ?[/list]

YES I BELIEVE THAT MIKKI, BUT DON’T YOU THINK EVERYONE HAS THE POTENTIAL OF BEING GREAT AT ANYTHING THEY PUT THEIR MIND TO. CLONES, HMMMM HAVING THE SAME GENES YES, AND VERY POSSIBLY BE ABLE TO TURN OUT JUST AS THE ORIGINAL. AS MIKKI SAID, THEIR ARE A LOT OF TURNING POINTS ALONG THE WAY, BUT AGAIN WITH THE SAME GENES WOULD YOU NOT MAKE THE SAME CHOICES??? OR WOULD DIFFERNET SITUATIONS COME UP CHANGING THE PATH…..HURRGGGGG! WHO STARTED THIS THREAD.

LETS JUST SAY, IF YOU WANT ANOTHER ME, THE CHANCE ARE GREATER IF I WERE CLONED THEN IF YOU TOOK JOE OFF THE STREET AND MADE HIM ME??? .NOW THAT I READ THIS I DON’T KNOW IF I AGREE WITH WHAT I JUST SAID.

THANKS LL

Mr Ed had bad character. Hopefully he was not cloned.

I have to agree with BBOJ on this.  Although heredity helps as a foundation, life is full of chioces, experiences and stuff that mold each one of us.  I do not believe you could replicate that.

Essential I think you would end up with the same genetic material but a different psych.  Kind of like a two pieces of clay of equal mass.  They can start out looking the same, but they are shaped by their environment.  They can never be entirely different because their mass is the same (genetic potential) but they can never be entirely the same either.  In the book series Dune one of the characters is cloned over and over for centuries.  He is always the same , but different.

What kind of environmentally deprived genetic freaks would we be if we did not engage in some good ole fashioned fun friend poking ??
