The mainpage of CrossFit directs new people here for help getting started. CF can be confusing enough for a newbie, we want to make it as easy as possible for them. We ask you to be courteous and thoughtful of the newbies. If they show up here for the first time and have to wade through 5-10 posts before we have a chance to scale for them, it can make it more difficult.
I have never done this before and am just practicing the movement.
Is it normal to do a jump like she does in the video?
No - the jump is a flaw in technique. That being said: It is common place in young experienced lifters. While generating speed through the transition and 2nd pull, Sage is exerting a lot of upward force on a bar that is very light for her. This results in her catching air as she pulls herself under the bar. The better and faster a lifter becomes, the “jump” begins to become prominent with warm up weight, but less so under load.
I encourage my lifters to try and keep the balls of their feet in contact with the platform & that a little heel lift is ok. This makes your feet light & eases the transition into the landing position.

Hope this helps
Absolutely true. There’s a difference in the jump being a small byproduct v. it being intentional. I didn’t think Sage’s jump was bad because her dad probably would have had her do it over. And I know Mike B has said something to the effect of your feet only need to come up enough to move into position, so yeah, sliding is probably more accurate. But, I wanted to clarify because above I said it was “okay” but your explanation is the correct one. My answer was an attempt at the “for now, don’t jump, but if you come off the floor a bit, don’t worry about it.” In my haste there was error . . . But yeah, no tuck jumping . . .
