Well as a testament to Crossfit, I ran a 5 mile race last night doing nothing but Crossfit (aka no “extra” running) I think last week there was a 5k WOD but that’s about it. And although it wasn’t Greg A.‘s feat of GPP by running 82 miles, I did it in 33:50 (6:45 mile) which got me 77th out of 1200. I got into a footrace with a guy at the finish line and proceeded to lay on the street, panting, just like after a WOD. A police officer asked if I was ok and I really wanted to explain that it was normal to do after a Crossfit WOD but I decided against it. Recovery wise I feel perfectly fine today, so if anyone has second thoughts, Crossfit works!
Ran a 5K race today. My left knee has been pretty sore for the last few weeks so I have been taking the running a little easy lately. Opening mile felt great (7:o4), then knee started to get sore so I needed to back it down a bit, and finished up at 23:32. Considering the conditions (had to be close to 90F) and my knee I wasnt too disappointed. Was shooting for 22 originally.

Nice time brother. I am trying to get back there. Last 5 miler was almost 42min. Got to drop about 20lbs to drop 9min, LOL.
23:4x something. official results not posted yet, but definitely not a PR. (pr=23:00) It was a hot, still day out on pensacola beach today. I might have been able to shave a little off that time, but not much. It was in the upper 80’s in both heat and humidity when the race started… On the bright side, I was behind a really hot girl with really short shorts on for 95% of the way. Heh. See, the 5k wod isn’t necessarily all bad.
Pack:
Complete as many rounds in 20 minutes as you can of:
Handstand push-ups 5 reps Subbed Smith Machine 135lb shoulder press
Bench press 95 pounds, 10 reps
Push press 65 pounds, 15 reps
Dips 20 reps
2 complete rounds. Third round was mostly done, just short 17 dips.
I subbed in smith machine shoulder presses, because my handstand pushups would have been viewed as entertainment for other rest of the gym. My front delts were smoked at the end of this workout and I continue to suck at dips (about 5 reps per attempt)
Cash out:
3 sets front & side step ups/resistant band ab rows
How agianst the cf philosophy is it to work out on a rest day?
By the way I’m addicted to the brandx site now… I have to sneak to the bathroom at work to check the forum every 30min.

Coach Glassman and assorted other big names in the CF community (i can’t remember if i’ve seen GD explicitly say it, so i’m not going to throw words in his mouth) have said on numerous occasions that, “You don’t get stronger by working out, you get stronger from recovering from working out.” As such, your rest days are incredibly important. Love them, embrace them, sit on a couch and read all day. Your body likely needs it.
People (i’m one of them) get so addicted to CF that they really just want to keep pushing and can’t/don’t want to stop. I used to feel super lazy and fat during my rest days…i’m learning to love them though.
If you can’t veg on your couch for a day, “active rest” is suggested. nothing to strenuous, certainly not anything high intensity…
