That’s cool we’re listed first. What’s going on with Krav Maga at Brand X?

I’ll have to ask some dumb questions.
Is being first on the list of some significance?

Were BX affiliates before? I recall there was talk about relinquishing registration as a KM training centre because of an unfavourable cost/attendance ratio. I don’t think it was this organisation, so is this instead of or as well as the other affiliation?
If it’s a move, does this new organisation offer some advantages?

Thought this “WOD” was kind of cool found on the Alliance site.

here’s my question for the sifus, the krav and pit experts at bx…..

how does krav, 360, bjj, and the spear work during sparring and then extrapolate out to an all out aggressive attack that is similar to the one on the krav alliance website? That is, how well do krav and self defense techniques work in simulated and real fight situations… not a one step attack but a continuous assault where the aggressor will not let off?

When you look at the replay of the attack on the new krav alliance website, there is a horrific rear naked choked on a young man. (I see this often at work due to the high number of bars that now have recordings of their premises.)

Now, we could debate what the young man should have done… (not give up his back, go for the offender’s groin, eyes, ears, and my favorite, even as a former black belt,.....run..run ,,,run…..you just don’t no what motivated attackers have in mind)

But as you look at the instigator, he is throwing a significant number of punches relentlessly (obviously an experienced street fighter) and his victim cannot respond.

This is the “bar fight” Should we match punch for punch…..how do you prepare for this in class? what’s the drill?

sorry for the ramble but this is why I train!

First, how does Krav, BBJ or the SPEAR work in conjunction with sparring? What I can say about this is to simulate as much as you can. Take each move in a sparring session and break them down into what works and what is a waste of time. The things that work, are or could be your entry move into the fight. Take these moves and add to them. There are so many ways to work sparring to get what you want, but remember sparring is not fighting.

Training for as real as it gets: Since we cannot kill our training partners, we can only simulate so far. For our Black Belts we put them into a unfamiliar situation and make them respond, however that may be. Example: We have two females come up and close there eye’s. They have no idea what is about to happen. We have two other Black Belts with full gear on and guns. The drill starts with a gun shot and us yelling get on the ground, don’t move etc…... Now they need to react to this stressful situation and do something. It was pretty incredible how they reacted. Now this can’t be done all the time, but to evaluate your training it’s a good indication how they might respond.

You can run the same senerio several times and get different responses each time. Do what you can to start fights in different and awkward positions. Fights don’t always start face to face.

How do you prepare? The best you can. Change things up. Students need to be put in uncomfortable situations, but that will only tell you how they will react right then, but it’s better then not training at all.

Great question.

Good for you Jeff. Glad you hooked up with John. I almost drove out to him, but KMSO is like 5 minutes away. Hope all is well with you. You’ve been a great help to me and even though I haven’t been around., I really appreciate it.

I can attest for doing real world training and not “simulated” training.  I just finished my Brown Belt Instructors test in Krav Maga.  the round robin where people are coming at you with anything they can think of guns, knives, sticks, bearhugs, etc..  for 3-4 minutes straight doesn’t seem long but with no rest it is a long time.  I’ve trained with John Whitman, Kelly Campbell, Darrent Levine, Amir Perets, Ryan Hoover… all black belts and definitely have a new sense of their dedication to be where they are at.  What I’ve come to realize is if your not training from a worst case scenario and also training in a oops mindset (you missed the gun when doing the takeaway) is to not stop and inflict maximum damage on your assailant.  Real fights don’t have referee’s or rounds, and most definitely are not FAIR.  (weapons, 2 on 1, 3 on 1, etc…) Get the first one in and don’t stop until you can get away safely
