Rest Day on http://CrossFit.com

Skill Day on http://CrossFitKids.com

The mainpage of CrossFit directs new people here for help getting started.  CF can be confusing enough for a newbie, we want to make it as easy as possible for them.  We ask you to be courteous and thoughtful of the newbies.

Check out the CF Journal video that is previewed on the mainpage today.

CrossFit Kids gets a mention for the life lessons kids are learning through it.

I think this is going to be CF and GD and BBoJ’s greatest contribution to the world.
Unless they start offering parenting certs.

Sort of, but you won’t be chased out or anything.
GD doesn’t scale rest days. BX is all hardcore about these things and does them full on.

Not a rest day for me, I’m behind one for a 3/1.
Ive missed quite a few workouts, damnit…

Ryan - no rings
Front Squat - could do at gym
Death By Pullups - could do at home
Linda - Grand, so heavy.
4x 800m run - I think its going to be 90 degrees tomorrow, perfect.
Tabata Something Else - Great! I should do this
Deadlift 5-5-5-5-5
Fight Gone Bad -  No way the gym lets me throw the med balls smile

So from a training standpoint - they’re all awesome workouts, but suppose I was going to do one tommorow…..

(Or should I just cut my losses, take the rest day, sync up with the main site, and never cry over what I’ve missed and never miss again?)

I apologize for my free-form stream of consciousness forum-posting typing diarrhea.

here’s what I do: throw out the ones I don’t have equipment for.

Pick one of the others out of hat.

Oh no you don’t . . .  You start apologizing and then I’ll have to start apologizing . . .

Did my 1st crossfit WOD yesterday, it was Monday’s double-unders & sit-ups. Don’t have a rope though, so instead of DUs I did 50 % tuck jumps and 50 % “full reach jumps”, where I touched the roof with the palms of my hands (the room was a nice height for this obviously).

Jump for 2 minutes       70
Sit-up for 2 minutes       60
Jump for 90 seconds     43
Sit-up for 90 seconds     43
Jump for 1-minute       33
Sit-up for 1-minute       28
Jump for 30 seconds     19
Sit-up for 30 seconds     16

Total jumps 165, total sit-ups 147, total total 312

Wow, a 10-minute workout and I am totally exhausted? And to me this seemed like a pretty easy WOD, not to mention that sit-ups are probably my best move. Crossfit is madd.

Today I did Ryans.

Three rounds for time of:
5 Seated or Squat Muscle-ups
12 Burpees

There are no rings at my gym, so I subbed 5 dips and 5 pull-ups for the muscle ups.

I forgot to turn off the timer or even look at it for a few minutes after I was done (too excited to be done with burpees, I suppose). I probably did something around 6 minutes.

Do you guys recommend total rest when it’s a rest day or active rest… swimming, biking, running…etc.?

I have trouble doing “nothing…” ha ha ha ha

Well if you compete or do alot of other sports like running, swimming, basketball etc. then go ahead and take part in them. You could use today as a skill day as well to work a gymnastic skill. Maybe doing a light warm-up and 3 sets of 5 progressive mu, or L sit holds/ tucks. If you wanted to start a new sport, today would be a good day to take a look into it. If you need rest then by all means rest. Keep today simple and have fun.

Today was the Front Squat WOD for me:

88 x 5
132 x 1
143 x 1
154 x 1

At this point my ankle was quite sore at the bottom of the squat so I switched to Back Squats and did:

176 x 3
209 x 1
220 x 1

Cashed out with:

2 rounds of 8 shoulder press with 12kg kettlebell
20 kettlebell swings (two handed) with 12kg kettlebell
15 decline sit ups
2000m row in 8:41

Afterwards I felt like my ego had written a cheque that my body couldn’t cash, so extra stretching tonight and rest day tommorrow.

On Tuesday, August 18th did:

flip pictured tire 200 meters for time: 18:20.

My tire is 57cm tall and 114cm in diameter. I have no idea how much it weighs, but it is heavy.  Any guesses at that size?  Any ideas about how much work I did?  Arms and hands in pain. Sweet.

On Wednesday, August 19th did:
Push Press x1(kg): 70, 75(f), 75(f), 72.5(f), 72.5PR, 75(f), 75(f);

Actually, I had never done 70kg before, just thought I could, then did.  It wasn’t until after that I checked my notes…

I wanted the 75 badly; so, frustrated, did: 30kg push press x30 for time: 1:40
