Hi New Pup - that is great news! Taking CrossFit to those kids would be wonderful. All those lifts (squat - including the air squat, back squat, front squat, overhead squat, deadlifts, clean, press) are included in most of the CrossFit Kids Workouts. Do you check the daily WOD on the kids site? If not I suggest you go there at http://www.crossfitkids.com.

Subscribe to the CrossFit Kids Magazine if you have not already. There are monthly articles that feature how teachers & coaches have implemented CrossFit Kids into their classes. This includes handling and programming large groups of kids.
For a summer camp I would suggest including many CrossFit Kids Games. Always end the workout with a CrossFit Kids Game - make it fun for the kids.
I would suggest doing team workouts, tabata workouts and Fight Gone Bad style workouts with such a large group of kids.
How long does the camp last? Is the summer camp only for the Girls Cross Country & Track teams or is it open to anyone?

Nichole - Thanks for the tips ... The camp starts today (7/6/09) and goes for 6 weeks five days a week.  It is for both boys and girls 8th grade to 12th grade.  I am going to follow the Beginners Ladder that I found in Cross Fit Journal for today.  Maybe work up to a mini Cindy workout.  I am especially going to emphasize the correct way to do a squat.  Introduction of the different levels - Pack, Porch, Big Dawgs etc.  I also want to start them thinking about their Nutrition.

Any other suggestions ...

I have a little rugrat on the way due on March 12th and I am very interested in introducing him to CFKids.  What age would be appropriate and should I be CF certified for this?  Any comments or advice? Thanks ahead of time.

Short answer is 3 to 5 and yes.

You may want to e-mail one of the HQ trainers also.

If I e-mail the HQ what questions should I ask?  I don’t want to seem like a total newbie, even though I am a little bit.

With a new one on the way for 2010 you have a bit of time before you need to go to a CFKids Cert.  wink
The youngest age currently being worked with is, I believe, 3yo - the “preschool” classes.
You can get an idea of the content of the CFKids Cert. from the videos that have been posted to the CF site and CFJournal.
The Cert. is invaluable in terms of explaining, in practical terms, how to train kids and why to train kids.  From movement cues, and class structure to brain chemistry and game design the Cert. is pretty exhaustive in its content.
