I want everybody who will read this to know that I fully support martial arts, self defense classes, rape prevention classes, and anything else that helps protect the weak from being a target on the streets. I am a martial artist myself, and I fully support anything that can help people defend themselves.
I came across this interesting website with a collaboration of articles, all of which are fascinating reads. But two sections in particular are relevant to the subject of martial arts and self defense. Here are the links to the articles.

This is applicable to self defense classes and reality based martial arts which focuses more on preserving your own life in a life and death scenario. What I think is interesting about these sets of articles is that it focuses on the legal realities of self defense. It is not being able to defend yourself in a fight, or to be the best fighter among your class. It is a legal defense that is used to tell a jury, “Yes, what I did constitutes as a crime, but I have proof that I was justified in my actions.”
My question is this: How many of you martial artists and self defense gurus out there 1) think about the legal aspects of your fighting art, and 2) incorporate it into your teaching/learning so the legal limits of your actions are understood?
