My girlfriend and I will be traveling to Jacksonville, Fla at the beginning of January and need some advice.  We will be flying in a Tuesday and leaving Wednesday.  We won’t have a lot of time to travel around the area, and don’t really want to rent a car if we can avoid it.  So, does anyone know the hotel around the airport enough to suggest one based on exercise facilities? Are there any hotels near the airport, but also near to a globo where we can at least have access to weights and a pull-up bar?  We figure we can run/walk everywhere within reason.  Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

Would suggest at least getting in touch with Chris Russell at Crossfit Jax (http://www.cfjax.com) - maybe you don’t want to train there but he should be able to hook you up with the local knowledge you are looking for.

Cheers, kempie

PS If I were traveling there I would definitely try to drop in for a session with those guys - totally legit!!

our first thought was to look into an xfit affiliate.  however, then our plans changed, and it looks like we will not have time to do much more than take a shuttle from the airport to the hotel, and back, plus we are on a strict financial budget (so the rental car will likely be out).  we thought, if we can find a hotel with an exercise facility that has more than just a treadmill and bike, then we could at least have a workout beyond push-ups, squats, situps, running.  Perhaps Chris Russell would be able to give me more direction on the hotel situations.

Thanks for the suggestion.

mattb,

there are a handful of hotels directly off the highway leading to/from Jacksonville Intl Airport. here is a link of contact/map info of those hotels. i would call them and ask what type of fitness/amenities they have. hope this helps and have a safe trip!
