Just a quick follow up.  I think the result speaks for itself!

I have been CFing since mid-January of this year.  Due to multiple knee surgeries and 1 surgery on my right foot, I typically substitute rowing fo running.  I enterd a charity mud run this past weekend (a 10K with ~35 obstacles) and finished in 1:20, which put me in the top 50 finishers of nearly 4000 runners.  Amazing what CF does for you!!!

Thanks Scott!!  Almost daily I get little reminders about how CrossFit helps me life a better life.

So far, this “mid-life” stuff has been pretty good!  Thanks in large to this lifestyle!

Just bought my CF Journal subscription.  You guys are great with all the work you do and information you provide.  I just feel bad it took me so long to pony up the cash.

Going to start on the CFSB training today.  Very happy with my overall fitness level (as one of the 40+ club), but thought my strength could use a bit of a tweak to help me be able to do some more workouts as rx’d.

Thanks again for all the work you do here at Cross Fit Brand X.

Just joined, first post; life of wishing and wanting to be fit without a lot of action, but a lot of partying.  been in recovery for 12 years, lots of drs. try lots of pills to fix lots of ills.  Started running last year but no nerve to DO a 5K.  Ran into a friend, diabetic, in his 50s, looked GREAT and had been crossfitting (i never heard of it).  Went with him to class & was HOOKED!  within one month I ran my first 5K, feel better than I ever have.  Love the atmosphere, the ruggedness, the carmaraderie.  LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it…even when I HATE it….....  grin  I think it should be in all the schools across the country and it would help our kids tremendously.  No need for meds, just get some confidence, some fitness, some support.  What a difference!

I gave up football after my Sophomore year in college. Do to differences between me and the coach and the fact I couldn’t do both football and major in Biology/Teacher licensure and maintain my grades to keep my academic scholarship.  I was 230 pounds at 5’10”.  Not Fat but a little bit of a gut.  I had a tweaked shoulder from a slight separation.  I continued to powerlift and ran three times a week. I quickly got bored. Couple soccer players introduced me to crossfit.  I did a few workouts maybe one a week but not fully committed.  Changed my diet and ran alot lost weight. Did Insanity this past summer dropped down to 210 pounds. Around October 2011 I fully committed my life to crossfit. Before I knew it people were walking up to me going wow what did you do. Your body has changed so much. You look great etc… etc… I hadnt dropped an ounce of weight and I had only been crossfitting fulltime for a month.  Around November I went stricter on my diet picked up my intensity and everything.  February I went Paleo/Zone. I can do 5 strict pullups which I could never do. I can do 2 muscle ups now after two months of work.  I now weigh 197 pounds. I completed Diane for a time of 4:48 RX’d. I went from a 36 in the waist to a 33 since january and compliments come almost everyday. I can do Handstand Pushups, Muscle ups, all workouts as RX’d. I now have a 6 pack for first time in my life. Oh yeah the pain and discomfort in my shoulder that was with me for two or three years has completely disappeared.  All the minor aches, pains, and tweaks from football have disappeared and I am in the best shape of my life. Next fall I plan on starting to enter competitions for crossfit. I graduate college this year and I will be looking for a job. Once I get one I plan on joining a Crossfit gym and training for competitions. I have my first competition of any kind outside of football this next september. A Marine Mud Run obstacle Course 5k. I would never imagine doing this just 4 months ago

Hope no one cares I am opening an OLD topic.

So started Crossfit in September 2011. Stuck with it for about 2 weeks and then I stopped. Don’t know why I stopped but I did. Started back up begining of Feb 2012 and have been doing it non-stop since then. Only been doing it 3 months and already it has changed my life.

I have never been an out of shape person. I played competative soccer from 9 years old till college. I havn’t done anything physical since then other than Air Force PT. I have always had at least 10:30 1.5 mile. I weighed in at 189. My upper body has always been lacking though and apparently I didn’t have a strong core. When I started I could do “uh” pull-up and you can forget snatch and clean, and WTF is a Double Under. I could barely reach mid shin when doing toe touches.  My diet was terrible and I never gave it much thought. I just wasn’t anywhere near as athletic as I was when I was 17 and 18 and that was only 5 years ago.

I had to do something. So I read up on crossfit. I have been through these forums nonstop, learning everything I can. Nutrition, to much work, to little work, pushing to fast, workouts, subs, what works best for progression, adding strength, and on and on. I never miss a WOD unless I need the rest. I post every workout and use that to keep myself motivated. I can see how I compare to those who are around my skill bracket. Yes, I am competing with all you who do Pack.

3 Months in and I can now do 5 Consecutive Pull-ups and then 5 more and so on and so forth. I now have a warm-up that is harder than my Air Force PT could ever pretend to be. I can also finally touch my toes, better yet, I can put my palms on the floor. I make PR’s all the time. Doubles unders NO SWEAT! As I progressed, I realized to make it all worth it I had to fix my diet. Sodas were out. I am quickly dropping all excess simple carbs. Putting much better stuff in to get so much more out. I feel a million times better than I did even in my Soccer days. I now weight 182 and am getting pretty ripped. I now have shoulders haha.

Crossfit did something for me that I hope it does for everyone. Physical fitness aside, it really did change my life. 23 years old and had it in my head that I could eat whatever, do whatever and still be thin and kickass. Looking now I had so much potential and I have been wasting it and crossfit helped me see that. I encorage everyone I talked to about fitness to at least try it, because if they take half of what I have taken from it, their lives will be infinitly better. This stuff is awesome.

I drank the Cool-Aid. I’m in this for life.

Since it´s still active topic here we go:

Why do I like Crossfit? Hmmm, that would be because it let´s me fight my worst enemy; myself. And that I get out from that fight more than 90% of the time as the conqueror.

I´m a lazy person! Have not before the age of 30 something done any sport or activity what so ever on any regular basis. An injury to my shoulder sent me to rehab and from there I at the age of 31 started to go to a gym. Did what normally was done there, bench, curles, back-squat and so on (mostly machines). NEVER EVER for thoose years did I challange myself! I worked out, considered myself to be “fit” (yepp, thats a false self!). Even at a medical check-up talked the nurse into that I was not overweighted, I WORKED OUT (she gave up after 10 minutes, I can be convincing)!

So then, the revolution came to me: In the daily paper an article about something called Crossfit. Looked interesting (and not that hard hehehe). Started to “mess” around, not really knowing what I did.
Internet, source for much good (and unfortunatly a lot of s_it) got me to crossfit.com. And from there to the supportive ppl on this site!

I have a long way to go before I today would say “I´m fit”, but at least I today can say that I know how to get there, and that I´m willing to pay for the progress in sweat, blood and tears.

Yes, still remember one of my first real wod; Diana. Ooo how easy it looked, and ooo who degrading it was.

Over and out from Patrik in Göteborg, Sweden
