Deadlift 5-5-5-5-5-5-5 reps

Post loads to comments.

Please hold questions and comments until Garddawg or BlueBugofJustice post the scaling, which usually includes links to exercise videos, common substitutions and other helpful information.

The mainpage of CrossFit directs new people here for help getting started.  CF can be confusing enough for a newbie, we want to make it as easy as possible for them.  We ask you to be courteous and thoughtful of the newbies.  If they show up here for the first time and have to wade through 5-10 posts before we have a chance to scale for them, it can make it more difficult.

“The point of CF is to get better at life.  Being unable to workout tomorrow because you were pigheaded today is not in line with our goals.”
Garddawg - 22 March 2009

“CrossFit is not dangerous.
Bad coaching is dangerous, poor movement is dangerous. Ego is dangerous.
CrossFit, properly scaled to the individual is the safest and most efficient program available”

“I wish I knew how you could overstate the value of the deadlift.”
-Greg Glassman-

Here are some vids everybody should watch regarding the deadlift whether you are familiar with the lift or not:

http://media.crossfit.com/cf-video/CrossFit_RipDeadliftIntro.wmv

http://media.crossfit.com/cf-video/CrossFit_RipDLAlignment1.wmv

http://media.crossfit.com/cf-video/CrossFit_RipDLAlignment2.wmv

If you are familiar with this lift then you are a Big Dawg today:

Big Dawgs:
as Rx’d

Everybody else, if you are unfamiliar with the lift watch the videos above and the use the time today to practice this lift with a piece of PVC pipe or a light barbell.

A wise investment is the book Starting Strength 2nd edition by Mark Rippetoe. If you don’t have a coach this book will help you understand the lifts. If you do have a coach it will point out how little he/she knows.

Here is a link to the book:

Actually did this yesterday, which is just as well as the gym will be closed today by the time I’m finished work, and I’ve insufficiant weight at home.

Deadlift, 5-6 reps, many many rounds, I worked with 140-155lbs.

That used to be my warmup weight! Another place to gauge recovery. =\

SDLHP/Pull to Inverted Hang

Puppies:
15-12-9-6 rep rounds of:
35 pound Sumo deadlift high-pull
Knees-to-Elbows (only one rep last round)

With the KTE sub I thought it was reasonable to time this. My shoulder blew up on the last KTE set, so shut it down there.

Well, I was a slug this week. Didn’t work out all week. No excuses, I just was a slug. Anyway I was a Big Dog in understanding and a pup in weight.

I was real careful about trying to maintain good form due to a back injury that flares up once in a while.

i scaled yesterdays workout a little differently. i added ring rows to give my upper back some work.
18-15-12-9-6-3
sdhp 75#
knees to elbows
ring rows.
most sets were broken. i obviously need to work on that stuff.

deadlift 5-5-5-5-5-5-5
135-155-175-195-210-220-230

i’m pretty happy with the 230 for 5reps. on 100118 i finished with 225 for 3 reps. i got my weightlifting shoes delivered yesterday and wore them for todays wod. maybe it’s the shoes.
