So as long as I can remember, whenever I run for any extended period of time/distance, I get pains all over my midsection. From my abs to my back, side to side. If I’m running far enough, I’ll eventually run through it, but its a pain reason why I can never max my 2-mile run because I get slowed to a crawl when it hits. The circumstances are never similar; I always stretch and warmup properly. I’ve been to a doctor, but they were no help.

Anyone have any ideas on what is causing this and/or how to stop it? Please and thank you.

Have you tried exhaling when the left foot strikes? That little tip was particularly revelatory for me when I heard it a few years back; it all but eliminated my own running cramps. These days I only really cramp up if my breathing gets erratic, or if I haven’t eaten properly before a running WOD.

This thread seems to have some good information in it, including the reasoning behind the left-foot thing: http://board.crossfit.com/showthread.php?t=2610

Have you found a relief yet?

My suggestion would be to make sure you’re torso is lined up on your hips correctly so you’re not over-using your core to keep yourself straight and stable. I would suggest going to http://www.therunningbarefoot.com if for no other reason than to browse through and see if anything sticks out that might help.

Good luck! :D
